The Problem

The onboarding process and user flow audit of the Turnkey Coach app revealed several key issues that require attention. While the app's functionality allows users to accomplish relevant tasks, there are notable usability concerns that impact overall user experience. Inconsistencies in design, lack of clear system status indicators, and insufficient error prevention measures were identified. Additionally, the app lacks the desired aesthetic appeal and could benefit from improved user control and freedom, as well as better support for error recovery.

The Solutions

The solution involves a comprehensive redesign strategy that addresses the identified usability issues in the Turnkey Coach app. By adhering to the Nielsen Norman Group's 10 Heuristics Principles of design, the redesign aims to create a seamless and intuitive user experience. This will be achieved through enhanced visual consistency, improved system status indicators, robust error prevention mechanisms, refined aesthetics, increased user control, streamlined error recovery processes, simplified task interactions, and clarified help and documentation. The proposed redesign is centered on optimizing usability, boosting user satisfaction, and elevating the overall desirability of the app.

Defining The Problem

We are tasked with redesigning Turnkey Coach (formerly Barbell Logic) to enhance the user experience for both new and existing coaches. The current app lacks visual consistency, clear system status indicators, and effective error prevention, leading to usability challenges. Additionally, limited customization options and convoluted error recovery processes hinder user control and efficiency.

Opportunity

By addressing these usability concerns, we have the opportunity to elevate the Turnkey Coach app into a user-centered platform that empowers coaches and clients alike. A more intuitive and aesthetically pleasing interface, coupled with improved task efficiency and error recovery, could enhance user engagement, drive adoption, and potentially lead to increased client success stories.

Hypothesis

We hypothesize that a redesign based on Nielsen Norman Group's 10 Heuristics Principles will significantly enhance user experience. Clearer system status indicators, consistent design elements, increased user control, and refined error prevention will result in a smoother onboarding process, more efficient task execution, and a higher overall satisfaction rate. This, in turn, should positively impact user retention and engagement.

Research

The Turnkey Coach app showed functional strengths but desirability concerns. UX highlights include effective screen flow, while UI issues encompass inconsistent icons and spacing, lack of design system, and incongruent visuals.

Key Insight form the research

  • The app's functional usability is promising, but user desirability aspects need attention.
  • Introducing a persistent search button could significantly enhance information retrieval.
  • A comprehensive design system implementation is imperative to address UI inconsistencies.
  • User onboarding screens should be refined to include vital information.
  • The complexity of the calendar feature necessitates a more intuitive design approach.

Who are we designing for

Our design efforts are focused on creating a seamless and enriching experience for both coaches seeking an efficient coaching platform and clients looking for a user-friendly interface to engage with their coaches.

Core Task Flow

The Turnkey Coach app's information architecture was thoughtfully restructured to cater to the distinct needs of both coaches and clients, ensuring efficient access to relevant features and resources for each user group.

The Final Solution

To showcase the redesigned Turnkey Coach app, we conducted a comprehensive design audit, presenting high-fidelity screens for various critical pages. In this audit report, we juxtaposed old and redesigned screens side by side, employing a color-coded system for clarity: green indicates improvements, orange highlights areas needing refinement, red signifies elements requiring immediate attention and blue stand for idea.

Calendar

The Calendar audit report tackles the complex calendar usability issue, presenting the redesigned screen with improved calendar features, simplified interactions, and clearer visual cues.
