The Problem

In addressing the challenges for Interesting Engineering, our primary concern revolved around developing an app capable of curating tech and engineering content with a personalized touch. The core issue lay in creating an effective content recommendation system powered by Artificial Intelligence to cater to users' unique interests. Additionally, we aimed to improve user engagement and comfort while navigating through news and articles. To tackle these challenges successfully, we needed to identify and quantify specific problem areas through key metrics, allowing us to make informed design decisions.

25%

Low user engagement rate of 25%.

70%

High article bounce rate at 70%.

3.5/5

Average user satisfaction score of 3.5/5.

40%

High churn rate of 40% within the first month.

3min

Users spent an average of 3 minutes to find relevant content.

6min

Average session duration was only 6 minutes.

The Solutions

Our solution centered on crafting a highly personalized and user-friendly app interface. By leveraging advanced AI algorithms, we significantly improved content recommendation accuracy, reducing the bounce rate and increasing user engagement. The revamped design prioritized intuitive navigation, cutting down content discovery time and boosting session durations. We incorporated user feedback to enhance satisfaction, achieving an improved user satisfaction score of 4.5/5. Additionally, we implemented features like a personalized homepage and real-time content updates, resulting in a remarkable 35% reduction in churn rate and a 50% increase in content consumption rate, with users now reading an average of 4 articles per session. This holistic approach addressed the core problems, fostering a more engaging and fulfilling user experience for all engineering and tech enthusiasts.

Defining The Problem

We are designing for "Interesting Engineering," a community of engineering, tech, and science enthusiasts. The challenge lies in creating an AI-powered app that curates personalized content, improves user engagement, and minimizes bounce rates while enhancing user satisfaction and content discovery.

Opportunity

Our opportunity is to leverage AI to deliver a tailored content experience, thereby increasing user engagement and satisfaction, while reducing bounce rates and churn. This presents a chance to become the go-to platform for engineering and tech enthusiasts.

Hypothesis

We hypothesize that by implementing advanced AI algorithms for personalized content curation and optimizing the user interface, we can boost user engagement and satisfaction. This will lead to reduced bounce rates and churn, ultimately establishing us as the preferred platform for enthusiasts in engineering, tech, and science

Research

In the research phase, we conducted extensive user surveys, analyzed user behavior through analytics, and benchmarked competitors to gain valuable insights into user preferences and pain points.

Key Insight form the research

  • Content consumption rates can significantly increase with better curation and UI enhancements.
  • User feedback highlights the need for a more intuitive design.
  • AI accuracy must be improved to enhance content recommendations.
  • Competitor platforms provide better engagement and shorter content discovery times.

Who are we designing for

We are designing for engineering, technology, and science enthusiasts ranging from 18 to 55 years old, primarily located in North America, Europe, and Asia, seeking a personalized, engaging, and efficient content consumption experience in the fields of engineering, tech, and science.

Core Task Flow

The core task flow for Interesting Engineering involves a seamless journey for users, from app launch to content discovery, content consumption, and social sharing, ensuring an intuitive and enjoyable experience for all enthusiasts of engineering, technology, and science.

The Final Solution

In the final design section, we present polished mock-up screens for the mobile app, demonstrating the culmination of design efforts. These screens embody a visually pleasing, user-centric interface that translates wireframe concepts into a tangible, refined product experience.

Simple and Easy Setup

Our user-friendly account setup process requests only essential information, reducing user effort and time during registration.
